FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why the Enviro Buggy?

The EV is easy to assemble, maintain, and use. It creates a more effective, hygienic, and safer way to picking up trash manually. With precision cleaning and a flexible pipe that can be held by the operator, it decreases harm to the surrounding area it is working in and assists in removing litter from smaller ingresses and crevices. The visual impact of the Enviro Buggy creates a large amount of interest with the public; their curiosity leads to awareness and encourages a personal mindfulness around waste. The Enviro Buggy is cost-effective and most of its components can be replaced if needed from the local hardware. It can be used in-between rocks and at the base of trees, as well as for other applications such as leaf cleaning. It is proficient in driving on both wet and dry terrain.

Is it easy to operate?

Lightweight, self-propelled, and doing all the ‘dirty’ work for you, the buggy can be driven by one or two people and in areas with a lot to pick up, the buggy can be left in neutral while vacuuming, thereafter driven forward or backwards using the hand-throttle once the operator is ready to move on.

What objects can it not pick up?

Objects that are larger than the diameter of the vacuum pipe, such as 1L or 2L bottles.

How much volume can the buggy collect and how do I know when to empty the bin?

Between the two baskets in the collections box, it can take 0.8 cubic meter. The operator can look through the main collection bin window to see how full the baskets are. Once the vacuum starts losing power, its usually because the bin is full, or blocked.

Does it get heavier or more difficult to operate as more waste or sand enter the bin?

The bin will get heavier but not heavy enough to create a large difference in driving capability or driver resistance and maneuverability. It’s important that the person steering and vacuuming with the pipe aims at only the objects and area that is littered and needs cleaning.  Sand can easily be dispensed from the trap door at the bottom of the collection bin.

How long do the batteries last?

The buggy will operate for +- 4 to 5 hours before the batteries need recharging. It will also depend on the vacuum setting used, the higher the vacuum power setting, the sooner the batteries will need recharging. A 220V electric supply can be used to charge them.

What maintenance is needed and how often?

The Enviro-Buggy is mainly built from aluminum and stainless steel, reducing the maintenance significantly. After each clean up the Buggy should be washed with warm water and preferably stored with a cover to protect it against dust and the elements. We recommend regularly cleaning the inside of the main collection bin with soap and water, which will then flush out at the bottom of the trap door. The motors are 48V DC brushless motors and are maintenance free. The drive motor has a maintenance free reduction box built in. The rear drive axle is hard chromed and is maintenance free. The rear motor drives the rear wheels through a set of bevel gears in an oil bath. The oil should be checked every 6 (six) months. The bearings have built in seals and do not need any maintenance.

Is it harmful or dangerous towards the ecosystems it operates in?

The hand-held vacuum pipe promotes selective and precise aiming to avoid a large surface being damaged where there is no litter and so, no vacuuming needed.  It gives off no emissions due to it being battery-powered.  The size of the wheels and only weighing as much two average-sized men, the weight of the Enviro Buggy assists in leaving an extremely low footprint on the terrains it runs on.

What is the wear-and-tear on the buggy?

The Enviro Buggy is rust free, splash resistant, and sand friendly.  There are drain holes and vents to keep it cool.  All wheel and steering bearings are sealed to prevent contamination.

Are there components that will need replacing?

The batteries might need replacing at the end of their life span. International standard battery and can be be acquired locally and according to our standard size. If damaged, the PVC vacuum pipe may have to be replaced. This can also be bought from your local hardware store.

What is the ordering process and production lead times?

We keep stock on hand, but each unit is available subject to prior sale.  If we do not have stock, it would take approximately 4-6 weeks manufacture and assembly, excluding shipping. Upon ordering, the option between lead acid batteries, gel batteries, or lithium-ion batteries of the same spec will be given to the purchaser.

How is the Enviro Buggy shipped and what are the shipping inclusions?

We offer the option of air freight EXW, sea freight EXW, or self pick-up/self-transportation arrangements. If shipped internationally from SA, the buggy is folded into a flat pack excluding batteries (batteries not supplied for export market from South Africa) and must be assembled as per instructions by the purchaser.
